Find the Right Seattle Chiropractor

Now that you’ve decided you need a chiropractor, you face a big decision: which Seattle chiropractor to choose. Before you get overwhelmed by the possibilities or discouraged by your lack of knowledge, here’s a hint. The following four steps are all you need to find the right Seattle chiropractor. Read through them and you’ll be on your way to choosing a great chiropractor.

Find the Right Seattle Chiropractor – First

As with so many other professions, not all chiropractors are the same. There are a number of techniques chiropractors can use to treat you. The ones they choose to employ depend a lot on where the doctor was trained, how many different types of treatment they have used in the past, and your situation.

Most any Seattle chiropractor you select will use what’s called a “diversified” program of spinal manipulations. Another, very gentle method is called the “Gonstead” which is noted for being quite precise. There are numerous techniques that have been developed for use in very specific situations. It’s a good idea to meet with the doctor before you make a commitment. Sharing the exact nature of your condition will help them decide how to treat you. While you may be unfamiliar with the names of the techniques, discussing your particular issues will help both you and the doctor decide what’s best.

If the chiropractor doesn’t mention it, you might ask about something called “Network Spinal Analysis.”  At one time this was a technique of blending the best ideas from many techniques to create a holistic approach. Today it has grown beyond that to incorporate the concept of self-correcting work that patients do after they have been treated.

Tip 1: If the doctor does not indicate a specific treatment for your problem, you probably need to go elsewhere. A Seattle chiropractor experienced in your area of concern will most likely suggest and explain treatments.

Find the Right Seattle Chiropractor – Second

Today it is not at all uncommon for a Seattle chiropractor to focus on a certain type of patient. The most notable examples are those chiropractors who specialize in pediatrics (children), gerontology (the elderly) or sports medicine (athletes of all ages).  You don’t have to fit exactly into the doctor’s patient profile but there’s no reason to see a pediatric chiropractor if you’re over 20 years old.

Tip 2: Don’t rule out a doctor with a more general practice. Sometimes having experience treating a range of issues can be more helpful than the narrow focus of a specialist.

Find the Right Seattle Chiropractor – Third

Yes, it’s true you’d rather not have to think about money when selecting a Seattle chiropractor but it is a necessary evil. Find out what kind of coverage you have for chiropractic treatment then check to see if the chiropractor you’re considering accepts that company and can work with your plan. Remember to check how many visits your plan will cover, whether you need a referral, what your co-pay will be, and the amount of your deductible.

Tip 3: Ask the chiropractor what they charge per visit, what additional costs you might incur, and whether you can negotiate if your insurance is inadequate.

Find the Right Seattle Chiropractor – Fourth

The number one concern in selecting a Seattle chiropractor is competence. If the doctor isn’t experienced enough, doesn’t seem to care about your needs, or specializes in an area other than the one you need, don’t choose them. No matter how nice they may be, bedside manor won’t make up for poor treatment.

Not nearly as important but still something to be considered is the personality of the practice. If the doctor and their staff seem comfortable, friendly, and helpful, go for it. If not, see if you can find someone else with as good or better credentials in a friendlier atmosphere.

And don’t forget about convenience. Check with the doctor about the hours they are open, whether you can get weekend appointments and what to do in case of an emergency. Location may not seem like such big deal when you’re healthy, but when you’re back is killing you, you may not want to drive an hour to see your doctor.

Tip 4: Don’t worry if you choose a chiropractor and turn out to be dissatisfied. This is not a lifetime commitment. You can change to another doctor if you want. With our help, you’re sure to find the Seattle chiropractor that suits you just fine.
